Establishing a Library of Lecture Materials and Booklets to Promote the Importance of Preventing Periodontal Disease across the Nation
Jeong-ho Yun (Dept. of Periodontology, Chonbuk National University)
Greetings, fellow members
Figure 1. Examples of training materials for the promotion of periodontal health by the KAP For the prevention and early treatment of periodontal disease and non-communicable disease (NCD) which is classified as so-called systemic disease, WHO and IADR (Int¡¯l and American Association for Dental Research) continue to suggest the need to restructure social healthcare systems. Periodontal disease and NCDs are known to share risk factors. Global institutions also stress the role of public sector to improve both optimal oral health and general health. For which, they have been focusing on the significance of nationwide promotion to increase public awareness and trainings. Examples of this include emphasis on the relations between periodontal disease and systemic disease, development of materials for lecture and training, media promotion, etc. In addition, the Oral Health Day was designated as a national memorial day this year for the first time in South Korea and the public and press are paying attention to the periodontal health as evidenced by an increasing number of requests for the information relating to periodontal disease by the media. Based on this, we believe that the materials can also be used for existing training projects that are carried out in concert with public health centers, aiming to ¡°promote the public awareness of periodontal health.¡± With substantial editing, we will continue our efforts in providing easy-to-read booklets to the members and public at the Fall General Conference and offer materials for lectures and patient counseling that can be used by dentists before the 9th Gum Day next year. Lastly, we would like to extend our appreciation to doctors of the KAP who share their valuable insights by sending the materials, professors who review the documents and our editors who strive to edit to release the materials and booklets out of their busy schedule. Thank you. <Appendix> 10 categories of library to promote the public awareness of periodontal health 1. Introduction to periodontal treatment (reviewed by Prof. Sung-ho Choi) 2.
